Mount Diablo Series: Around the Bend
Acrylic painting on canvas
About the Mount Diablo Series
My mural projects take me all over the bay area. Whenever I am facing a commute, I like to leave early to beat the traffic, and then use the extra hour to take a hike to discover something new. Whether I am hiking along a deserted fisherman’s wharf or exploring a secret trail a client has let me in on, daybreak offers a quiet beauty that makes me feel happy to be alive. This past December I was painting in Alamo, which is in the east bay near Concord. I saw Mount Diablo Regional Park on a map, and thought it looked promising. What a discovery! Every morning for a week I started my hike in the dark at 7 am, and was blessed to witness breathtaking sunrises over picture perfect rolling hills. This series was inspired by the beautiful dance between the cold and gray winter shadows, and the warmth of the bright sun as it skipped across the landscape at dawn. I hope you enjoy the images as much as I did.
