Please join me at The Menu Wine Lounge on September 15 at 7 p.m. for a night of art and music. I am thrilled to have my dear friend, accomplished singer/songwriter Lily Wilson perform at this event. Based on the enthusiastic chaos my children spearheaded at my last show, this is going to be an adults-only event. This shin-dig is my opportunity to celebrate and thank all my clients and fans for their support with free drinks and appetizers. I hope to see you there!

The Mack Murals

Blame it on the butler! In 2005 Diane Mack hired me to paint a butler with a welcoming tray of wine and cheese in her kitchen. Over the past 7 years Diane has had me back several times, and each collaboration has been been a completely new direction, and reflects their interests in a unique way. You can see the highlights of past years work here; scroll down to see this years projects. Diane reports that everyone that visits is simultaneously taken aback and tickled by the butler in the kitchen. It is still one of my favorite murals!

The Laundry

This laundry room connects the garage to the main house, so the Mack’s walk through it every time they come and go from the house. Now, the room offers a breath of fresh air, and hopefully makes doing laundry a bit more fun.

Old Mack Donald’s Schoolhouse

There are two things that are guaranteed to light up Diane Mack’s face: her Shih Tzu’s and her grandchildren. Her dogs have been incorporated in the previous paintings; it was time to think about the grandkids! She is a very active Grandma, and looks after her grandchildren (2 under the age of 4, one on the way) on different days of the week. She wanted to carve out a special space that was just for them. Kids love small spaces, and so a big “L” shaped closet that is in the middle of the house under the stairs was designated as the kids hideout, with pillows, books, and murals all around. The highlight of this project was seeing her grandaughter come in and marvel at the transformed space!

Remember the Waikiki Beach mural I painted last month? Now you can see my process start to finish in this 2 minute video.

Be sure to turn on your speakers: the music by my dear friend Peter Wing will take you right down to the beach.

Lily Notes
I met Lily in Spain, when I studied in Granada for the year. She would play gigs in the tea shops in the Albaicin, a neighborhood with architecture and roots back to when the Moors still occupied southern Spain (we’re talking 1400’s… the town was quaint.) She played guitar with Jen, and another friend, Joanna, took up bongos to provide backup percussion. I was their #1 fan, and enjoyed many a fair eve sipping chai and listening to Lily strum her guitar.

Fastforward 20 years, and I am in awe of Lily’s continued dedication to her craft. I am sure many of you have the perception it is very easy to get started in the music business in LA as a singer songwriter. Lily oozes not only with talent, but she also has a work ethic that would inspire any Silicon Valley entrepreneur. Writing, pitching, giging, hustling… and then she starts to sing and the world just drops away. I hope you come hear her play on September 15! You can also hear her music and find out more about her on her website!

Inspiration
By the quanity and quality of Eleanor Roosevelt quotes, I am struck by what a forthright and courageous woman she was. Here are some of my favorites!

The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.

You must do the things you think you cannot do.

You have to accept whatever comes and the only important thing is that you meet it with courage and with the best that you have to give.

I think, at a child’s birth, if a mother could ask a fairy godmother to endow it with the most useful gift, that gift should be curiosity.
